Can gums grow back? from gum disease?

hi i have gum disease and my part of my gums have disappeared. now my teeth look big *in height* especially my vampire teeths. i have a phobia of dentists and to afraid to go but if i get it treated now will the gum reappear or am i stuck with tht?
