Can someone give me details on single stage paint?

I have an 89 astro work/ 4 yr old son mobile. I have to work in it and I want it to look and feel nice to ride in. It is brand new and if you dont believe then we can race. You will know I was there either way. Im wanting to do a brandywine color so I dont have to alter its original maroon color extremely all the way to the firewall. and beyond. Im very maticulous with things like this also. Ive heard alot of talk about ppg. Is this paint going to last for years to come or should I go further with it. I have access to a sprayshop and I own the tools to do all of this. Would it be more worth it to go all the way or spray a single stage. Should I spray clears or stick with a good single stage paint?
